Early Years Provision

Early Years at Heron Cross Primary School

At Heron Cross Primary School, our Early Years provision lays the foundations for a love of learning, curiosity and confidence. Following the principles of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we support children’s development across all prime and specific areas of learning – Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Our curriculum is rich, engaging and carefully structured to ensure that every child makes strong progress while developing the skills they need for future success. We provide experiential, hands-on learning opportunities that help children explore ideas in meaningful, memorable ways. Through a broad range of exciting topics and links to a range of texts, children investigate the world around them, build early problem-solving skills and develop their creativity and imagination.

Indoor and outdoor environments are thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration, independence and collaboration. Our skilled staff guide children’s learning through a combination of high-quality adult-led teaching and purposeful child-initiated play.

At Heron Cross, we believe every child deserves the very best start and that only the best is good enough. Our Early Years setting nurtures enthusiasm, resilience and a sense of belonging – ensuring children are happy, confident, and ready for the next steps in their educational journey.
