MFL LEAD

I am Miss Frost, and I am proud to lead Modern Foreign Languages at Heron Cross Primary School, with a focus on Spanish from Year 3 to Year 6. My passion for languages comes from a lifelong love of travel. Visiting countries around the world and experiencing different cultures has shown me how important language is in building confidence, communication and global awareness.

Although EYFS and Key Stage 1 do not take part in formal MFL lessons, we introduce simple greetings such as hello, goodbye and thank you in different languages. These early interactions help children recognise linguistic diversity, develop confidence and build a positive attitude towards language learning as they move into Key Stage 2.

In line with the National Curriculum, pupils in Years 3 to 6 learn to listen carefully, hold simple conversations, ask questions and express ideas with growing fluency. They broaden their vocabulary, develop accurate pronunciation and begin to understand basic Spanish grammar. As they progress, pupils learn to read and write short texts, describe themselves and explore cultural traditions from Spanish-speaking countries. My aim is to deliver an ambitious and engaging MFL curriculum that inspires children to value other cultures and see language learning as a skill that will support them throughout life.
