Physical Education

Miss Goodfellow
PHYSICAL EDUCATION LEAD
I am Miss Goodfellow, and I am delighted to lead Physical Education at Heron Cross Primary School, where I oversee the development on physical skills and healthy lifestyles across the curriculum. I am passionate about keeping active, developing physical literacy and helping children develop their confidence in areas such as teamwork, resilience and determination.
My enthusiasm for PE began when I was at school, through various sports and attending my local netball club. This is something that has followed me in to adulthood as I still play competitive netball in a local league. Through this, I have built friendships, overcome challenges and it is a brilliant way to keep mentally and physically fit. These formative experiences continue to inspire my approach, and I strive to instil that same passion and excitement in the pupils of Heron Cross. Physical Education is vital for a holistic development. I wish for all children to discover the joy of movement and the importance of physical and mental well-being. Through my guidance, I want children to learn valuable life lessons about perseverance and sportsmanship. I collaborate closely with teachers, especially Mr Wilks, to ensure our PE curriculum is dynamic, inclusive and designed to inspire all pupils to participate and excel.
From introducing fundamental movement skills to individual challenges and encouraging participation in team sports (within school and in competitions involving other schools). I am dedicated to helping children build a strong foundation for a lifetime of physical activity. Through fun and engaging lessons, a focus on personal bests, and a culture that celebrates effort and achievement, I aim to make PE a subject where every child can thrive and discover their unique potential.

Mr Wilks
HEALTHY LIFESTYLES LEAD
As a PE Specialist Teacher, I am passionate about inspiring young people to enjoy movement, develop confidence in their physical abilities, and make healthy choices that support lifelong wellbeing. This approach is wider than just within lessons, as we encourage healthy food choices, active lifestyles outside of school and encouraging parents to engage alongside their children. I love my subject because it allows every child to shine—whether through teamwork, individual skill, personal improvement, or discovering a sport they truly enjoy. My vision is to create a progressive curriculum where all pupils become physically confident, understand the importance of exercise, and learn how healthy eating fuels their bodies for success. In line with the National Curriculum, I aim to provide opportunities for students to compete, collaborate, and lead active, healthy lives, while giving them the knowledge and habits they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
