RELIGIOUS EDUCATION LEAD

I am Miss Richards and I am proud to lead Religious Education at Heron Cross Primary School. I am passionate about helping children develop the knowledge, understanding and reflective skills that they need to navigate and appreciate the diverse world around them.

I grew up as a Christian, attended a church school, and regularly took part in church life. These early experiences helped me to develop a strong sense of community, curiosity and reflection. They sparked my fascination with the big questions people ask and the many different ways individuals and communities express their beliefs. This foundation continues to inspire my work in RE today.

At Heron Cross, I believe that Religious Education plays a vital role in preparing children for life in modern Britain. Guided by the National Curriculum aims and our local Stoke-on-Trent Agreed Syllabus, my vision is for every child to:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding, of a range of religions and worldviews
  • Ask thoughtful and reflective questions, about meaning, purpose and moral choices
  • Consider and express their own beliefs and values, within their world around them
  • Show empathy, respect and appreciation, for the diversity of our community and wider world

I work closely with teachers to ensure our RE curriculum is engaging, inclusive and ambitious, offering pupils meaningful learning experiences through stories, artefacts, visitors, visits and rich classroom discussions.

From exploring celebrations and symbols with younger pupils to guiding older children through deeper questions about belief, identity and ethics, I am committed to providing high-quality RE that encourages confidence, curiosity and understanding. Through thoughtful teaching and a culture of respectful dialogue, I aim to make RE a subject where every child can flourish.
